Newcastle EAT Festival 2009

Thought you would like to see the Ruby Rose Cupcake stall at the EAT Festival which took place over 2 days in May.  I introduced 2 new flavours - Lavender and Orange, and Rhubarb Polenta and both went down very well especially the rhubarb and polenta.  I have also introduced to the Ruby Rose range: Blondies, Brownies and Paradise bars a new range of Ruby Rose Tea's and Coffee's and Ruby Rose sprinkles.  I would like to give a big thank you to my mum who helped out in the Ruby Rose kitchen and with the festival over the 2 days where we sold out of cupcakes, Blondies, Brownies and nearly Paradise bars.

 

Keeping it local with Ruby Rose Cupcakes

It's taken me a bit of time to get into this blogging but hopefully now with a litle bit of knowledge I am up and running.  I just wanted to briefly talk about the ingredients that go into making Ruby Rose Cupcakes.  From the outset the ingredients was and still is important to me, I was and still am very keen to use local ingredients so I thought you would be interested to know that from it's very birth I have used Sunny Hill Free Range Eggs.http://www.sunnyhilleggs.com/ go and check out their website and see where you can buy their eggs near you.

At the moment I am trailing organic butter from Acorn dairys.  I have always used British butter but soucing locally has been always been the aim so let's keep our fingers crossed that it may continue!http://www.acorndairy.co.uk/

Another ingredient that's not commonly used is buttermilk.  The buttermilk used in the Ruby Rose Red Velvet and Ginger,Cinnamon and Nutmeg with fresh lemon frosting comes from the Lake District.  Why don't you try using it?

My next mission is to start using Fair Trade sugar and chocolate, I'll keep you posted.

Events for January 2009

Well, here we are already heading towards the end of January and I have just managed to get round to writing on my blog, something I need to do more often!  I was kept busy with orders leading up to and during the festive season and then finishing with Ponteland market the week before Christmas - which I failed to pop onto this blog, sorry. 

January has started off with a few orders and enquires which can only be positive considering the general doom and gloom the TV and media keeps on about.  So I can only think that eating and sharing cupcakes can spread happiness and joy to all that venture down this little indulged route. What could be nothing nicer than eating cupcakes, especially Ruby Rose cupcakes.

I am looking to do other markets over the coming months and have already been approached by several companies who are organising food and drink festivals through-out the region this year, I'll keep you posted.

Saturday 24th Ponteland Market

So this Saturday the 24th I shall be at Ponteland Farmers Market again hopefully with a few new flavours of cupcakes in tow which I have been pondering, hopefully one of them to be from my new 'gluten fee' range which is in development.

Saturday 22nd November

Ruby Rose Cupcakes willbe at Ponteland Farmers Market on Saturday 22nd November, it starts at 9.00am through to 12.00pm at The Memorial Hall in Ponteland.  Hope to see all cupcakers there.

Sunday 23rd November

Doxford Hall are kindly sponsoring a charity day in aid of HospiceCare North Northumberland.  The hospice has chosen to hold a craft and food fayre which Ruby Rose Cupcakes will be one of the exhibitors.  Along with a range of cupcakes to buy I shall also be making a special cupcake in aid of the day.  Hope to see you all there at the newly refurbished hotel in aid of a great cause.

 

A big thanks

Someone I forgot to say thank you to in my first blog was my sister, Tara, not on purpose but it was rather early in the morning when I was bashing away at my computer.  Apart from her commercial words of wisdom the other week (she knows what they were), Tara contributed towards the copy for the website, its 'home' page and 'about us'.  Thank you Tara

Here it all begins!

Well, here I am writing my very first blog and all on the back of an aadrenaline pacted 4 days, in which I launched my new company Ruby Rose Cupcakes at the Living North Christmas Fair, Gosforth Park in Newcastle on November 6th.

I would just like to thank everyone as the launch has been amazing with fantastic comments about my stand and my cupcakes.  A special thanks goes to my mum who has been staying with us for the last week in preparation for the big event helping with cupcake production and frosting in the Ruby Rose kitchen.  Another special thanks goes to my friend Claire whom has been living the whole cupcake experience with me (apart from my husband and girls) for sometime now. Her help on the stand over the last 4 days has been invaluable.  I got to know some really good people (exhibitors) who became regular customers at the Ruby Rose stand.  Sam from 5 Rivers, Tracey from the Picket Fence, Laura from Chococards and Louise the list could go on and on and on and a special thanks to the general public who came back to buy cupcakes and place orders.

A special thanks goes to Dominic and Sarah from Tent who have created the Ruby Rose brand from my eclectic mood board - thank you.

Last but no least to my husband Mark who has been instrumental in this whole crazy world of swirls and sprinkles.  His patience and vision have seen me through.  I could of given up on a number of occasions but i'm glad I didn't as the results have been worth it.  And to my two lovely daughters Erin Rose and Niamh Ruby who are my inspiration behind it all.
